Easter in Patmos: an unforgettable experience
- Wednesday, 26 February 2014 01:55
Patmos has a huge religious history; after all it was the island where John the Baptist, the writer of the Gospel of John, wrote his famous Book of Revelation, the Apocalypse.
As one might imagine, that fact alone had a significant impact at Patmos' religious monuments and Greek and Byzantine Christian traditions. You can visit some of the most important monuments of Orthodox Christians, like the awe-inspiring Cave of Apocalypse or the the castle - monastery of St. John.
You will also witness many unique traditions, for instance, The Washing of the Disciples’ Feet on Maundy Thursday. The monastery's Abbot portrays the role of Christ who washed the feet of His disciples. On this day, a stage is constructed in the square of the capital village Chora. The Abbot, after washing the feet of 12 monks, steps off the stage and heads for a sacred place to pray, reminding us of the way Jesus followed towards the Garden of Gethsemane.
Christos and Eirini will be more than happy to guide and inform you about all the Easter events, so that you can really live an unforgettable experience.
